I have done extensive research on finding the best resources written by teachers who have tried the multi-sensory method and included them in this in-service. There is very little if any of "my opinions" in the information that was gathered. Instead I have relied on your fellow teacher's and professor's experiences and brought them all together to help you better understand the importance of a multi-sensory classroom.
The parts of this in-service that involve myself or my family is the biography and our story. I felt our story was a necessary part because I don't believe most people can grasp the frustrations that families have when they don't have their child's teacher as their ally. Our story helps you develop the whole picture of why we need our teacher's help in educating our children.
Understanding Learning Styles & The Multi-sensory Classroom
Teaching educators the importance of a multi-sensory classroom by offering a self paced on-line in-service to understanding learning styles and multiple intelligences and learning how to apply these concepts within their own classrooms.
This in-service is designed to help you identify learning styles and develop changes to meet multiple intelligences within your classroom. The objectives for this in-service are:
1. Understand the three learning styles of students and how each of these are processed differently by students.
2. Be able to identify each of the multiple intelligences and how to apply them in a classroom.
3. Learn about making your classroom multi-sensory by completing an on-line workshop and reading about examples of usage within classrooms.
4. Learn how to structure multi-sensory lesson plans according to grade and subject.
5. Be able to teach students about their strengths and weaknesses and how to apply study techniques to compensate for weaknesses in a classroom.
6. Understand the importance of multi-sensory classrooms and how it effects the population of a classroom.
There are many resource web sites that you can click on for more information in each section. Each outside web site is identified by a * symbol to let you know that you are leaving the in-service web site. You will need to return to the in-service page after you explore each of these web sites in order to continue the inservice.
